The Faerie Queene
Published in Paperback by Cliffs Notes (October, 1968)
Author: Harold M. Priest
Average review score:

Norton Has a Hit With The Faerie Queene
Those folks at Norton have done it again! Right when i think I know it all about Ed Spenser, Norton comes out with something truly outstanding. Even if you never get around to reading this tome, it belongs on your bookshelf. All well-read people have read the Faerie Queen and a few of Spenser's other masterpieces like "Tristram Shandy."

This is one super book!

Far from the Madding Crowd (Literature Made Easy Series)
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (August, 1999)
Authors: Thomas Hardy, Tony Buzan, and Thomas Hardy
Average review score:

I thought the book was great!
I think that this book was really fantastic. It was very close to reality in the way that the characters act. I also thought that the shooting close at the end was surprising.

Fed Up!: A Feast of Frazzled Foods
Published in Hardcover by Putnam Pub Group Juv (October, 1900)
Authors: Rex Barron and Victoria Wells
Average review score:

Anything BUT Fed Up!
I dissolved into giggles when I stumbled across this alphabet book. The drawings are delightfully silly, showing fruits, vegetables and other foodstuffs coming to their untimely ends or in other fraught situations. Rex Barron, an illustrator new to me, creates amazing personalities for these items of produce. This is definitely a keeper. Fair warning - if you are prone to anthropomorphizing, you may find yourself reluctant to bite into that crisp shiny apple after reading this!

Her father knew better and forced her to come to America, where the Revolution was blazing.

The First-time Gardener
Published in Hardcover by Conran Octopus (22 February, 1996)
Author: Pattie Barron
Average review score:

A terrific primer
I bought this book about four years ago and have just got around to reading it (any of you out there like that?). When I purchased it, I did so because I liked the pictures and illustrations, and thought if I had some spare time that spring, I might try to learn a thing or two about gardening. Then I got pregnant, and the book sat on the shelf, collecting dust until now. Motivated by the numerous flower beds at our new home, I thought it might be a good time to open this book up, and what I found was a wealth of user-friendly and good-humored information. Unlike many "beginner" gardening books, this one truly is for the first-time gardener, who doesn't know the difference between a trowel and a spade, and never knew that what type of soil you have can impact how your garden grows. And of course, there are the gorgeous illustrations and photographs that drew me to choose the book in the first place. This really is a perfect way to enter the intimidating world of gardening.

Focus on Scarf Styling
Published in Paperback by Hidden Treasure Press/IBTS (October, 1999)
Authors: Layla Barron and Aslam Levy
Average review score:

What A Wonderful Book!
I'm not a Muslim, but I've found this an ideal book to share with other non-Muslims, who may feel put off by the attire of Muslim women. This book is full of photos of girls and women who demonstrate that it's easy to dress beautifully *and* Islamically at the same time.

"Focus on Scarf Styling" will be a great morale-booster for any young Muslim girl -- the pride and self-respect she sees on every smiling face in the book will be a tremendous inspiration.

It could be used with great benefit in classroom cultural studies as well, to show kids from other backgrounds that being an observant Muslim can be cool!

French: Vocabulary Trainer (Barron's Vocabulary Trainer Series)
Published in Audio Cassette by Barrons Educational Audio (September, 1997)
Authors: Martine Delaud and Jacqueline Sword
Average review score:

A good guide to beginners in French.
I expected to hear a lot of words in English and its French translation, but what I found was a concise guide to understand and speak French in different everyday situations. A great surprise ! Vocabulary on the cassette is organized in 12 subjects (Feelings, the Weather, Moods / Leisure Time with Friends / Shopping / Health ...) with almost 40 expressions per subject, first spoken in English and later in French by a man or a woman. Sound is good and the English speaker introduces in a pleasant way every group of phrases. Booklet has two parts, one with the cassette transcriptions and the other with some travel tips and more words and sentences (in both parts you will learn more sentences than words) grouped in others 15 subjects (related with the events of a trip) not included in the cassette but with a pronunciation guide. Recommended for those that are planning to travel to a francophone country and has a basic or none knowledge of French.

Gerbils (Barrons Pet Owner's Manuals)
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (February, 1995)
Authors: Raymond Gudas, Michele Earle-Bridges, and Matthew M. Vriends
Average review score:

Pretty Good.
This book is great for anyone who is considering buying a gerbil or even for people who already have one. I most recommed it to people who are trying to convince their parents to let them have a gerbil. Even if you don't want to buy it it is still a good idea to check it out of your local library. It tells you every thing you ever wanted to know about gerbils. About food, housing , handling, anything you can think of. Have fun!
